Every vacuum system, no matter how advanced, depends on the reliability of the smallest components. In high, ultra-high, and extreme-ultra-high vacuum environments, fasteners are not simple hardware. They influence pump-down curves, long-term pressure stability, outgassing behaviour, contamination levels, thermal performance, and even the lifetime of the equipment. Contamination
Even a perfectly sealed system can suffer from drift, unstable pressures, or reduced yield if microscopic contaminants remain on components. Water, hydrocarbons, manufacturing residues, and particulates outgas under vacuum or bake-out conditions, compromising sensitive processes. Cleanliness is especially critical in semiconductor tools, optical systems, thin-film deposition equipment, and scientific instrumentation.
These problems cost time, reduce uptime, and disrupt experiments or production cycles. They are avoidable, but only with the right fasteners, and handling procedures.

Galling
Stainless steel fasteners are prone to cold welding when used in vacuum, during bake-out, or under thermal cycling. Threads seize suddenly, bolts get stuck or shear off, and components are damaged during disassembly. Galling is not a user error, it is a material and friction phenomenon that requires engineering solutions.

Virtual Leaks
Even when a system passes helium leak testing, pressure may rise slowly during pump-down. The cause is often gas trapped in blind tapped holes, beneath screw heads, or in small crevices. These trapped pockets release gas extremely slowly, acting like a leak that cannot be detected conventionally. This delays pump-down, raises base pressure, and reduces process stability.

Cleanroom Cleaning and Vacuum Bake-Out

Our components undergo multi-stage ultrasonic cleaning, DI-water rinsing, filtered drying, and vacuum packaging in ISO Class 5 conditions. For the highest cleanliness requirements, our vacuum bake-out process removes water vapor and residual hydrocarbons, ensuring extremely low outgassing behaviour. This is essential for HV, UHV, and EUV systems.

Anti-Galling Coatings

We help users avoid thread seizure by selecting the right materials and finishes. Options include:

  • silver & gold plating
  • MoS₂ (molybdenum disulfide) & WS₂ (tungsten disulfide)
  • diffusion-hardened stainless steel such as Kolsterising®

These solutions dramatically reduce friction, prevent cold welding, and maintain reliable torque behaviour even after repeated thermal cycles.

Vented Fasteners: Eliminating Virtual Leaks

We supply a full range of centre-vented screws and vented flat washers designed to remove trapped gas volumes. The vent paths dramatically improve conductance and ensure that blind holes and thread cavities evacuate as the chamber is pumped down. This shortens pump-down time, stabilizes pressure, and prevents slow outgassing during the process.
